Supporting Sea Lions: An April Fool’s Day joke?

Hi everyone,

We hope you enjoyed Friday’s April Fool’s Day announcement regarding the marine mammals. That was a joke, however there is a true story in the background. Let us tell you.

From time to time, many of us are involved in some acts of charity. Giving money, help, care, and support to those who need it. Members of our teams, together with JetBrains as a whole, take part in initiatives such as helping plant trees with the Earth Day Promo, donating blood, participating in the #IceBucketChallenge and more.

In our CLion team we track interesting news around marine mammal population, especially sea lions. A huge number of volunteers around the world are doing a great job helping these cute animals, protecting them, providing medical treatment and food to those who need it. They rescue and rehabilitate sick and injured marine mammals, spread knowledge about these fantastic creatures widely, and help maintain a steady population. One such center, The Marine Mammal Center, is located in California, USA, uniting under one roof volunteers activities, science and educational programs.

In August 2015, JetBrains’ CLion team became a member of the Adopt-a-Seal of the Month Club at the Marine Mammal Center. Our gift helps buy fish and medicine for the patients and funds research into marine mammal diseases as well as helps educate the public about the importance of marine mammals and ocean health.

As a nice present from the Marine Mammal Center we’ve received colorful bios of our adoptees, including their photos and stories. Like for example, the story of Leo, sea lion pup:

Or Poppy, a fur seal pup:

We were glad to help these animals and hope their populations will stay stable and healthy.

And in conclusion, we’d like to encourage everyone to look around and see if someone near you requires help, support or care. Help them and make the world better!

Sincerely yours,
The CLion Team
