  1. Rick Herrick says:

The 12.1.1 update is failing on Windows 7 64-bit with the following error message:

    java.util.zip.ZipException: invalid entry crc-32 (expected 0x2d0cb582 but got 0×0)
    at java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream.closeEntry(ZipOutputStream.java:275)
    at java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream.finish(ZipOutputStream.java:343)

    at com.intellij.updater.SwingUpdaterUI$5.run(SwingUpdaterUI.java:186)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:722)

The upgrade patch works properly on OS X 10.8.3 64-bit.

  2. Mike says:

I click on the “download” button with in the “check for update” window and nothing happens (running Centos)… is there an alternative way to download and apply a patch? I don’t want to have to download the whole thing again.

  3. Ofer Ron says:

Patch fails to install, over 12.1.

  4. Marco says:

Oh cool, an update: “Update and restart” –> “Failed to apply patch” –> Unable to start Intellij anymore (idea.exe cannot be found).

This is what I call high quality! Thanks!

  5. Ismael says:

With this last update when you search with CTRL + SHIFT + N it also shows the .# files. These files are genereated by intellij each time a file is modified. This was not happening on the previous version.

  6. Roger says:

The update fails because of permissions on Kubuntu 12.10. Seems permission elevation isn’t working

  7. Roger says:

Changing permissions on the intellij directory fixed the update issue.

  8. unodgs says:

Same update error on ubuntu 64 12.10..

  9. Jarek says:

Just noticed you no longer have to overlay FLex with Air SDK in 12.1, very nice, thanks!

  10. AP says:

When click the “Download” button on the update tool from IDE, It opens the download page. Is there anyway to update via patch (Earlier it was working fine), without downloading the whole stuff?

    (Idea 12.0.4 on Win7 & Ubuntu 13.04)

  11. Fabian says:

    For 64-bit Windows users:

if you’re running idea64.exe, the update can fail with a “patch can’t be applied” message – run idea.exe as administrator instead, in order to upgrade.

  12. NE says:

what a nice update :( scala plugin is not working anymore >:-[

  13. Peter says:

Update fails on OSX when not running as an administrator. I’d log in as an administrator and apply the update, but that user doesn’t have an IntelliJ IDEA license…

  14. SMK says:

I did environment variable (IDEA_JDK_64 pointing to jdk 1.6.0_45 64bit) for idea64.exe as per http://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/entries/23455956-Selecting-the-JDK-version-the-IDE-will-run-under and my idea64.exe.vmoptions configuration as below.

    -Xms128m
    -Xmx750m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=350m
    -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=96m
    -XX:+UseCodeCacheFlushing
    -ea
    -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false
    -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

    Jdk version (64 bit) :
    java version “1.6.0_45″
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_45-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.45-b01, mixed mode)
    IDEA:
    IntelliJ IDEA 12.1.1
Build IU-129.239 built on April 2013

If I click idea64.exe then it is taking long time to open the idea window and very slow. So I tried to use bin/idea.bat with IDEA_JDK environment variable pointing to jdk 1.6.0_45 64bit. It is opening the idea window immediately and the speed is good.

But drawback of using idea.bat is opening additional dos console. And getting some warning message on dos console as below.

WARNING: Could not open/create prefs root node SoftwareJavaSoftPrefs at root 0x80000002. Windows RegCreateKeyEx(...) returned error code 5.
    [ 13816] WARN - openapi.wm.impl.ToolWindowImpl - ToolWindow icons should be 13x13. Please fix icon path=/ideTalk/user.png class=class icons.IdetalkCoreIcons
    [ 13831] WARN - openapi.wm.impl.ToolWindowImpl - ToolWindow icons should be 13x13. Please fix icon path=/ideTalk/user.png class=class icons.IdetalkCoreIcons
    [ 16286] WARN - pl.ExternalResourceManagerImpl - Cannot find standard resource. filename:/META-INF/tapestry_5_0_0.xsd class=null

Conclusion: If you want to use jdk 64 bit for IntelliJ idea 12.1.1, better to use idea.bat with proper environment variable settings.

Any better approach, please share to all.

Now idea64.exe is working fine after changing my vmoptions.

  17. Steve Freeman says:

    OS/X Snow leopard
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-456-10M4508)

Update pops up an ‘Update’ window with just a ‘Proceed’ button. Clicking it does nothing. There’s also another ‘Update’ window in the background with ‘Validating installation…’
