IntelliJ IDEA in use at more than 150 open source projects; including many widely acclaimed Apache Java projects
May 19, 2005
PRAGUE, Czech Republic — May 19, 2005 — JetBrains™, Inc., creators of intelligent, productivity-enhancing tools, announced today that the recently launched Open Source Support Initiative has been broadly accepted by the open source developer community. In February, JetBrains began making free licenses for its acclaimed IntelliJ IDEA Java IDE available to qualifying open-source developers. Since then, developers from more than 150 open source projects have qualified to receive free renewable annual licenses for the preferred integrated development environment for top-level Java developers. To date, IntelliJ IDEA is in use by Apache developers in over 60% of Java development projects.
“We welcome JetBrains contributions,” Said Dirk-Willem van Gulik, President, Apache Software Foundation. “Their intelligent platform and tools help our open source community develop robust, industrial-strength code, more quickly and more effectively.”
“We are extremely gratified at the enthusiastic reception the entire Open Source community has given our Open Source Support Initiative,” said Eugene Belyaev, JetBrains President and CTO. “This acceptance and support of IntelliJ IDEA and its innovations by open source developers underscore our special position in the extremely competitive and shifting Java IDE marketplace.”
Apache participants receiving licenses include members of the widely acclaimed Ant project, Geronimo, Tomcat, Tapestry, Maven and Struts projects, to name a few. Other open-source projects receiving licenses include BeanShell, CruiseControl, JBoss Portal and AOP Aspect Libraries, JPublish, Jython, Open Symphony, and Spring Framework. A complete list of Open Source projects using the JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA 4.5 IDE under the Open Source Support Initiative can be seen at https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/opensource/projects.html.
