JetBrains 8th Annual Hackathon: Home Edition
It is that time of year again! 48 hours of limitless freedom to play, create, and test out ideas that may go nowhere – or that might just change the world. Following the spirit of Hackathons, this year, we adapted and evolved, and borne our first JetBrains Hackathon: Home Edition, something it turns out that not many of our community members have tried. Our Hackathons bring together people that may not have otherwise cooperated before. Working in 10 cities across 7 countries with time zones as much as 5 hours’ difference, 48 teams made up of 155 participants set out to bring their projects to life.

Introducing JetBrains Toolbox App
Last summer we held our third annual two-day hackathon, an event where anyone and everyone from JetBrains (as well as a few external contributors) gathered to work on a novel, high-impact idea. The JetBrains App Launcher was one of these Hackathon projects. The idea behind the project was to simplify the process of installing, updating and uninstalling different JetBrains desktop tools. After the Hackathon was over, the team continued to improve and enhance the application as part of the 20% project we have at JetBrains. Close to the end of 2015 it was released internally and was given the o

Let’s get right to the meat and potatoes and tell you about this year's projects. (more…)
JetBrains Hackathon 2013: Winning Project Weighs in at 100 KG
A few days ago our St. Petersburg and Munich offices together held an exciting Hackathon. Dozens of teams put their regular projects aside and devoted 48 hours to designing and coding their own new product. Hackathons, also called hack days, hackfests or codefests, have been around for a while. We’ve done something similar on a single-product scale from time to time, for example TeamHackCity last December or the so-called Eating our own dog food with RubyMine earlier this year, but this hackathon was a first company-wide event for us at JetBrains. We decided to open the code fest to company
