Cyprus Programming Challenge – A New Competition for School Students
Over the past few years, Cyprus has not only gained recognition for its breathtaking natural beauty and cuisine, but has also established itself as an IT hub, attracting numerous prominent international IT companies. The IT community in the country is flourishing, and students’ interest in IT is on the rise. Recognizing this, the Cyprus Computer Society, in collaboration with JetBrains and Neapolis University Pafos, has introduced the Cyprus Programming Challenge – an exciting journey into the world of programming and problem-solving designed for Cyprus school students.
The Cyprus Programming Challenge welcomes students from middle and high schools in Cyprus, embracing participants with varying levels of experience and expertise.The competition consists of a qualifying round and a final round. Participation is categorized into two leagues, one for middle school students and the other for high schoolers, though the problem sets in both leagues will be the same.
Qualifying round (October 17 – November 12, 2023)
The competition begins with the qualifying round, conducted online on the Codeforces platform from October 16 through November 12, 2023. Participants will encounter a carefully designed series of challenges to evaluate their problem-solving abilities and programming skills. Click here to participate!
Final round (November 19, 2023)
For those who shine in the qualifying round, the ultimate challenge awaits at Neapolis University Pafos on November 19, 2023. The final round is a thrilling on-site competition, offering these young talents an opportunity to showcase their skills, tackle more complex problems, and forge lasting friendships. At the end of the day, it’s not just about winning – it’s about enjoying the process.

The IOI Cyprus team and JetBrains tutor Pavel Mavrin will provide the problems for this challenge, carefully crafted to offer a blend of creativity, logic, and computational thinking. The problems will vary in complexity, catering to students of all ages and skill levels, from novice programmers to seasoned coders. The top 10 participants who demonstrate outstanding performance in the final round will receive special prizes from JetBrains.
