당사는 한국의 많은 학생들로부터 학교 이메일 주소를 사용하여 학생 라이선스를 받을 수 없는 이유와 관련한 문의를 많이 받고 있습니다. 아마도 많은 학생들이 학생 라이선스 신청 시에 아래의 에러 페이지를 많이 접하셨을 것으로 생각됩니다.
학교 이메일 주소를 통해 라이선스 발급을 받을 수 없는 이유는, 여러 차례에 걸쳐 라이선스 계약 위반이 확인되어 해당 학교 이메일 도메인을 차단하였기 때문입니다. 차단된 도메인 목록은 GitHub에서 확인할 수 있습니다. 당사는 위반 횟수가 특정 기준에 도달한 경우에만, 해당 학교 도메인을 차단합니다.
학생 라이선스를 받기 위해서는 어떻게 해야 하나요?

위의 방법외에 다른 방법은 없나요?

현 상황을 개선하기 위해, 해당하는 학교에서는 아래와 같은 조치를 취할 수 있습니다.
- 학생에게 메일 계정의 비밀번호와 동일한 것을 여러 곳에서 재사용하거나 공유하지 않도록 하거나, 가능한 경우 2단계 인증을 활성화하여 학생의 이메일 주소가 해킹 또는 남용되는 것을 방지하는 등, 보다 엄격한 보안 정책 시행
- 학생이 아님에도 허위로 학생임을 주장하는 사람을 식별하기 위해 JetBrains와 협력

Why can’t I get a student license?

JetBrains offers a free license program for students because we believe that using a good IDE makes your coding experience better:
- You can save time setting up your programming environment.
- With an IDE, you can learn various best practices in software engineering like refactorings and inspections.
- You can learn to use the preferred tools of professional developers worldwide while you’re still a student.
However, free licenses must be used according to the TOOLBOX SUBSCRIPTION AGREEMENT FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.
Most critically:
- You can’t share your student license with other people.
- You can use the free student license for educational purposes only – you can’t use the software for commercial purposes.
- You aren’t allowed to apply for student licenses once you’ve graduated.

Why can’t I get a license with my school email address?
We receive many inquiries from Korean students asking why they cannot access student licenses using their school email address?” You may have even seen this error page already:
The answer is that we have blocked several school email domains from which we confirmed multiple license agreement violations. The blocked domain list is available on GitHub. We only block domains from which the number of violations has reached a certain threshold.
What should I do to get my student license?
Once your school email domain is on the block list, you must apply with an English-language copy of a certificate of enrollment issued within the last 60 days in order to get your license. If your school will not provide an English version of the certificate, please include comments explaining which part specifies your name, current major, and current school year to facilitate the review of your application by our global team.
Also, please note that:
- Reviewing applications takes 2–3 weeks, depending on the volume of applications.
- We don’t accept other documentation such as a copy of a student ID, certificate of absence, temporary leave, or similar.
Are there any other solutions?
We understand the current situation is not ideal. Students cannot get their licenses as quickly as they would like, and we need to spend more time and effort reviewing applications.
To improve the situation, we believe your school office can do several things:
- Enforce stricter security policies, like reminding students to avoid reusing passwords to their mailboxes elsewhere and enabling two-factor authentication where possible to prevent students’ email addresses from being hacked and abused.
- Cooperate with us in identifying people falsely claiming to be their students.
