I cannot download update from PhpStorm 139.496. I have EAP selected and it tells me I have latest version.

Win7x32. Automatically update from RC3, evaluation license was valid until 29th December.
Today the trial period ended. Ok, I downloaded the installer, uninstall RC3 and install RC4. But I get an “Evaluation License Expired”.

Uninstall RC4, delete IDE settings folder, install RC4 — the same problem.
Uninstall RC4, delete IDE settings folder, install RC3 — the same problem.

Install RC4 on Win7 in VBox — no problem. What to do?

    • Maxim Kolmakov

Probably your trial expired on 29 November and not December.

EAP builds for minor/maintenance releases never contain new license every build, they contain the same evaluation license as the major release.

Only EAP builds for major release contain new 30 day license for every build.

      Please see discussion here:

On the splash i see “December 29, 2014”.

I create new user on work machine, logon and run PHPStorm – the trial period began for 30 days. And on virtual Win7 it’s work too. Seems like RC4 is major release. Or not?

        • Maxim Kolmakov

You first start of any of PhpStorm 8.* versions was on 29 November. Is that correct?

          • jhaoda

No. I successively use all EAPs and RC of 8.* starting 138.2502.

          • Maxim Kolmakov

Sorry, but then I don’t understand how you get Expiration on December 29, 2014. We provide only one 30 day trial for all 8.* releases.

          • jhaoda

Remove settings folder and start PHPStorm, trial period is reset… well, it was so until this case.

          • Mikhail.Vink

Just to note: removing settings folder to reset trial period is against PhpStorm license agreement you’ve agreed to on the first launch of IDE.

          • jhaoda

            How then i can test RC4 if i install 138.2502 or 139.14 in september/october?

          • Maxim Kolmakov

EAPs for minor updates is very similar to major releases so we don’t provide a 30 day evaluation license for each of them.

You can always buy a version 8 and use this key to test any EAP/RC for version 8.

I was on RC3 and I installed RC4 fresh. Getting a “Could not save application settings. String index out of range: -1” error

  • Pymarco

Since upgrading yesterday, line numbers no longer display in the gutter. “Show line numbers” is checked in Editor -> General -> Appearance.

    • Pymarco

Nevermind, I had to right click and check “Show line numbers” despite it already being checked in Editor -> General -> Appearance

      • Pymarco

Ok, well this is really frustrating. After right clicking and checking “Show line numbers” they do appear. But as soon as I do anything at all in the code editor, the line numbers disappear again. This is a serious issue as I have to see the line numbers at all times.
