Why do we get sent to this download page from PHPStorm? It can easily download and execute update by itself as it usually does.

    • Richard Quadling

I think patches do, but major/minor releases don’t.

    • Tibor Sekelj

Please please please don’t mention the toolbox app. Most useless crap ever produced by the great ide makers. It can’t even detect an existing PHP storm installation, so it just installs another one.

      • Евгений Бобров

Sorry, but i disagree. For me tool make updating much easer on mac.

        • Vladimir Luchansky

And you can also roll back in a single click if you don’t like the new version. 😉

          • Tibor Sekelj

probably better to uninstall phpstorm all together.

instead of fancy new features i would prefer if common basic features would finally work without critical bugs after 5.5 years: WI-8043 SVN merge from branch and commit, with deployment to SFTP, it does only upload changed files but NOT new files.

sorry but although im happy with the editor other basic functions like this one dont work so i will have to rethink if it makes sense to extend my subscription.

        • Tibor Sekelj

Yeah but not everyone uses mac :) on ubuntu its unusable.. i tried it and then saw its installing in some strange location which is not standard on this operating system :) as i said i am not interested in having two installations of same IDE on my machine.

          • Vladimir Luchansky

But why keep anything else if Toolbox brings all the things you need to your machine?
I also use it on Ubuntu. Since there’s no installer for PhpStorm or other IDEs, files can be located in any place. Toolbox brings them to its own catalog *by default* but you can always change it to any other location in Toolbox settings.

          • Tibor Sekelj

HI Vladimir. thanks for replying here :)
“there is no installer for …..” isnt true. there is an installer and its called APT. it works fine for thousands of software including google chrome. mysql IDE, skype and many other software. Also there IS an convention where apps do get installed :).

          • Eugene Morozov

There is a chance we will have a PPA once: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-129468

          • Vladimir Luchansky

Sure. :) Of course I meant the way JetBrains distributes products. As far as I know, there are also other applications that come via .tar.gz package and there’s nothing wrong with it.
However I agree on PPA’s convenience and usability so let’s wait for updates in the request mentioned above.

      • Joe T

i agree completely. i’ve tried on FIVE separate computers just to
install the Toolbox, and it fails with no error message on EVERY single
one. i’ve reported an issue about it, and gotten nowhere with help. And
my coworker who DID manage to get it installed says it takes a half-hour
to upgrade any IDE instance. Hardly worth the dubious benefits of
        having multiple instances at all.

        • Vladimir Luchansky

Can you recall the report ID? I’d like to look into it.
Half an hour for an upgrade is definitely not normal (unless the channel is very thin/unstable).

            Thanks for checking into it.

i’ve looked through Windows error logs when this happens and nothing gets recorded. It’s bizarre that it happens to me on several different machines – yet for my coworker it’s installed and functions, just very slowly.

          • Vladimir Luchansky

Thank you, we’ll check on this.
Just to be sure, did you check the latest available Toolbox version? Is it still the same? And installing PhpStorm from https://www.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/download/ goes fine?
