What’s mining: Dogfooding

Starting from today, RubyMine developers stop working ON RubyMine.

But, they start working WITH RubyMine.

During one week we are going to be eating our own dog food. This was planned long ago and we think now is the right time to do it.

We are taking RubyMine build 715 and will spend the week creating a small but quite useful (at least for us) web application using the Ruby on Rails.

We’ll be working on an extension to our existing exception analyzing system. It now receives all the errors you submit from IntelliJ IDEA or RubyMine, merges them, and transforms into bugs in our issue tracker. The errors you submit is already a great deal in helping us during the EAP, but we’ll try to make it even more helpful and useful.

Now, after submitting an error from the IDE, you never know what happens to it, when it gets fixed, etc. We want to add some web interface that would allow you to track the issues you reported, help us fix them by providing more info, etc. There will be some back-end features for us too.

But, of course, the main idea is to get into your shoes and see how really great RubyMine is for web development with Ruby on Rails! :)

We’ll be in touch!
