JetBrains Academy: Looking Back at 2023
Looking back at 2023, it was an extraordinary journey for us at JetBrains Academy. We released new projects and courses for you, forged dynamic partnerships with universities, shared moments with you at our in-person events, and much more. Now that 2024 has begun, we thought it would be a good time to take a step back, reflect on the amazing things that happened last year, and prepare for the new adventures ahead.
Without further ado, let’s explore the achievements that made us the most proud.
Community triumphs
Without any doubt, our biggest success is you, our vibrant community. In 2023, more than 200,000 learners joined JetBrains Academy, and now there are more than a million of you in total!
We enjoy watching you grow professionally and are happy to acknowledge your progress by offering certificates of completion for our projects on Hyperskill. These certificates will help you stand out on the job market, get noticed by recruiters, and advance your career. Last year, 2,426 certificates were issued – 2,426 reasons to be proud of you. It’s an incredible achievement!
New field of study
Last year we released a new track, Introduction to QA, which is perfect for beginners in the field of QA or individuals with no prior experience in IT. In just four hours, you’ll get the ideal balance of theory and practice by completing a combination of theoretical modules and hands-on exercises.
If you’re interested in learning QA right inside an IDE, check out our new course – UI Test Automation with Selenium and Python. This course is fantastic for anyone interested in quality assurance (QA) testing and provides some introductory Python knowledge. The course can be completed over four weeks of casual study.

Course catalog
In 2023, JetBrains Academy united all of our educational products, programs, and efforts under one educational brand. In addition, we wanted to showcase all the learning materials we offer in one place. To this end, we released a course catalog where you can choose a tech skill to learn. If you’re not sure where to begin or what skills you want to learn next, this catalog is a great place to start. Check it out now.
Partnership with universities
In 2023, we launched two cutting-edge Bachelor of Science programs: Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (Neapolis University Pafos, Cyprus) and Software, Data, and Technology (Constructor University, Germany). Over 50 students from different countries joined, including 25 grant recipients. Competition was fierce – on average, there were 10 applicants per grant.
We take great pride in our students’ exceptional achievements. Teams from Constructor University in Bremen, mentored by JetBrains expert Niyaz Nigmatullin, showcased outstanding programming skills at the Northwestern European Regional Contest (NWERC) 2023.
In 2024, we’ll continue to accept new applicants and invite all eager candidates to join us in shaping a future where education and technology converge.
Events
We were well and truly back in the swing in 2023! Our team made waves at two major conferences – DevLearn in Las Vegas and EDUTech in Singapore. It was great meeting all of you in person and discussing JetBrains Academy. Thanks for stopping by our booth! Let’s keep in touch!
In September 2023, we organized an event to support the School on the Practice and Theory of Distributed Computing. Over the course of four days, the students studied effective machine-learning algorithms, explored the latest techniques for keeping their data safe and sound, and took a deep dive into near-memory computing and database isolation. Recordings of the lessons are now available on the school’s Youtube channel for those who missed the event or want to revisit the content.
