PyCharm 2019.2.3

PyCharm 2019.2.3 is now available!

Fixed in this Version

  • We solved an issue that was causing an error when invoking string literals.
  • Regression errors were fixed in the debugger:
    • The usage of multiprocessing on programs resulted on the inability to debug them and that was solved.
    • We fixed the issue that caused uncaught exceptions not to show traceback data.
    • Breakpoint usage while executing code in debug mode was causing different execution behaviors resulting in errors and that was fixed.
  • The problem causing Python interpreter not to be properly set if downloaded from the Windows Store was fixed.

Further Improvements

  • The SVN performance was improved to avoid unnecessary processing of SVN operations’ results. Now projects with large amount of files using such version control system will experience enhanced processing times.
  • Some other platform issues were solved as well and much more, check out our release notes for more details.

Getting the New Version

You can update PyCharm by choosing Help | Check for Updates (or PyCharm | Check for Updates on macOS) in the IDE. PyCharm will be able to patch itself to the new version, there should no longer be a need to run the full installer.

If you’re on Ubuntu 16.04 or later, or any other Linux distribution that supports snap, you should not need to upgrade manually, you’ll automatically receive the new version.

I am on a MacOs Mojave and am getting a message saying:

PyCharm does not have write access to /private/var/folders/1z/1m9lcm4n2_j48v0bgxk0l46m0000gn/T/AppTranslocation/61CF340B-C7AA-418D-A5E4-0F2A898DE615/d/PyCharm Please run it by a privileged user to update.

There is only one account on my computer, so I presume that this account has all privileges.
How do I update Pycharm in my situation?

In debug mode, keymap “execute selection in python console” is useless, besides after using this keymap will cause console to be useless too……i

during update SVN AVG antivirus responded and stated that it was acting like ransomeware… anyone else have this? Concerned.

  5. tim roberts says:

I am getting alert — saying the update is acting like ransomeware modifyig files. I have hte log. Has anyone else experienced this?

  6. Eric Pascual says:

The 2019.2.3 patch process fails, complaining about the directory $HOME/.PyCharm2019.2/system/log/idea.updater.files.xxxx already existing (seems to be a temp directory, since the name is suffixed by a random numeric string).

It seems that the updater is trying to create this directory twice. I have tried to rename the existing one before re-applying the update. A new one is created, and the same error message is then displayed with its path.

Environment : Linux Mint 19.2 Tina

Did anybody else experiment the same problem ?

  7. Eric Pascual says:

    Hi again,

I managed the problem by downloading the archive and decompressing it in a fresh directory.

It happens that my current 2019.2 is in fact a 2018.3 on which several updates have been applied since installed. It has worked as expected untill now, but maybe this time it was too much 😉

  8. James Hamilton says:

Can you publish the size of the update? My home connection is metered, and shared by the family, so for large downloads I take my machine into work.

    • Ernst Haagsman says:

If you choose Help | Check for Updates within the IDE, it will show you which update is available, and what size the download would be.
