The Future of Space

When we set out to create Space, we envisioned a system that would provide an all-in-one solution for IT companies. It was intended to be a tool that would not only provide everything your company needs for software development, including projects, Git hosting, code reviews, and issue tracking, but also enable communication and information sharing inside organizations.

The reality, though, is that many organizations have their own specific needs, processes, and existing systems when it comes to knowledge bases, communications, and even issue trackers and CI/CD servers. We know this quite well, since we had a substantial number of users asking us to integrate Space with third-party tools such as Slack, as well as with our own tools like YouTrack and TeamCity.

However, these realities didn’t align with our vision for the product, and as a consequence, the adoption of Space has not been what we had hoped for. This is why we have decided to discontinue Space as it stands now and pivot it to a new product that will focus primarily on Git hosting and code reviews, which have been some of the most used and appreciated features by our customers. We’ll also be providing integrations with a variety of other solutions, including YouTrack and TeamCity. This new product, which is currently in private preview, is called SpaceCode, and it’s the direction we’ll be investing in moving forward.

How this affects you as a Space customer

As of May 28, 2024, we will no longer be selling new subscriptions or renewals for Space. We’ll continue to provide technical support and critical updates through May 31, 2025.

Depending on your current Space plan and subscription, you’ll be able to proceed according to one of the following options:

Space customers with an annual subscription (Cloud and On-Premises)

  • You can opt in to SpaceCode Preview for Git hosting and code reviews. For project management and CI/CD solutions, we’ll be providing you with complimentary 12-month TeamCity and YouTrack subscriptions.
  • To compensate you for having to migrate certain parts of your data outside of Space, we’ll extend your current Space subscription until May 31, 2025, regardless of when your subscription is set to expire.

Space customers with a monthly subscription

  • You can opt in to SpaceCode Preview for Git hosting and code reviews. For project management and CI/CD solutions, we’ll be providing you with complimentary 12-month TeamCity and YouTrack subscriptions.
  • To compensate you for having to migrate certain parts of your data outside of Space, we’ll extend your current Space subscription until November 30, 2024, regardless of when your subscription is set to expire.

Space Free customers

  • You can opt in to SpaceCode Preview for Git hosting and code reviews until the general availability release of the product. For project management and CI/CD solutions, we’ll be providing you with an indefinite TeamCity On-Premises Professional free plan with 3 build agents, as well as a complimentary 12-month YouTrack subscription.
  • To compensate you for having to migrate certain parts of your data outside of Space, we’ll extend your current Space subscription until November 30, 2024, if you use Space Cloud, or until May 31, 2025, if you use Space On-Premises, regardless of when your subscription is set to expire.

We will provide all the necessary details, instructions, and migration guides via email.

We’re grateful to you for your support and for having accompanied us on this journey. We understand that discontinuing certain product functionality and features will inconvenience you, and we apologize for that. We’re committed to easing this transition for you and ensuring that the legacy of Space paves the way for our new innovations that continue to serve your needs.
