JetBrains Introduces the New Generation of IntelliJ IDEA
IntelliJ IDEA introduces full-blown Spring and Hibernate support, Web services, Maven and ClearCase integration,
Ruby & Groovy support, impressive performance improvements, and more productivity features
October 15, 2007
Prague, Czech Republic, October 15, 2007 – JetBrains®, creators of intelligent, productivity-enhancing tools for software developers, have announced the availability of IntelliJ® IDEA 7.0, the next generation of its award-winning Java IDE (integrated development environment).
In this release JetBrains answer the needs of many existing and new users by providing efficient support for the most in-demand tools and technologies of today.
With its superior Hibernate and Spring (including AOP) integration, improved support for JPA, EJB, JSP, HTML, CSS, and XML, IntelliJ IDEA 7.0 takes Java EE application development to a whole new level of productivity.
Version 7.0 also features tools for developing complex Web applications, with highly anticipated Web services support and dynamic languages extensions. The more advanced JavaScript (with basic Flex) support provided in the release will be accompanied in the coming weeks with in-house Ruby/JRuby and Groovy development plugins. Even in their Beta stage these plugins have already gained unprecedented popularity, so they promise to take the dynamic languages development support to an entirely new level.
“Besides introducing support for many new technologies, we specifically focused our efforts on further upgrading performance, usability, and user experience,” said Sergey Dmitriev, JetBrains CEO. “As many of our users have attested, attention to details is what sets IntelliJ IDEA apart from other IDEs. It should come as no surprise that in this release we once again made significant progress in that area.”
Greater level of team members’ cooperation is now supported by tight and transparent Maven integration. Working in mixed teams is made easier through the newly introduced interoperability with Eclipse projects. The unified Version Control systems support, with new innovative change management features, has been extended with the Rational ClearCase integration and many other important enhancements.
The new project structure organization ensures easy and intuitive project configuration ? a great asset when setting up complex Enterprise Applications.
A completely new debugger UI, innovative visual Dependency Structure Matrix (DSM), top-notch performance, and enhanced usability are also worth mentioning.
Being traditionally focused on developers’ productivity, IntelliJ IDEA continues adding numerous productivity-boosting features and enhancements to make everyday development a real pleasure, including:
- Many new refactorings, including a long list of refactorings for XML
- Around 50 new code inspections and quick-fixes
- Better TeamCity integration, with a dedicated tool window for reviewing inspections and duplicates reports right from the IDE, etc
- And much more…
