IntelliJ IDEA 16 EAP 144.2925 is Out

Good news, everyone! A fresh IntelliJ IDEA 16 EAP build is out and ready. As always, it comes with various bugfixes, but that’s not all: there’s a couple of new features as well.

Built-in inspections that detect issues with use of concurrency annotations now support javax.annotation.concurrent.*:

Previously such problems were reported only for net.jcip.annotations.*.

Kotlin plugin has been updated to Beta 4. This brings better incremental compilation performance along with minor changes to the language, libraries, and improved coding assistance. More details can be found in this post from official Kotlin blog.

I’m just beginning to look at the idea IDE for personal use, but your new licensing structure means there is very little value in me purchasing a copy now. If I purchase a 12 month license now it seems that I will then be able to upgrade to version 16 when it is released, but unless I then purchase another 12 month license I will only be entitled to use version 15 once the 12 months is up.

Unless you can guarantee that any work done in version 16 can be correctly accessed by the current version 15 product, there is no logic reason for me to start using your product as it becomes worthless at the end of 12 months.

We understand that some customers may use a fallback license and thus. I agree with you that back-compatibility is highly important for fallback licenses. We never meant to force people to upgrade by introducing an incompatibility. I can guarantee that if you find something done in version 16 that is not working in 15, we’ll do our best to fix it as soon as possible.

Are there any news regarding showing unversioned files in the commit dialog? Since there is no activity on the bug tracker (https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-73077), I’m hoping to draw some attention to this impactful omission in a otherwise great IDE.
