Introducing the Personal To-Do List in Space

Posted on by Valerie Andrianova

We have so much to keep up with on a daily basis. We communicate with teammates, read blog posts, perform code reviews, and keep a lot of other important work items and activities in our heads. When it comes to personal productivity and task management, sometimes it’s hard to keep track of everything. It can be overwhelming and, frankly speaking, sometimes the best way to get something done is to wait for a better time to do it. In these cases, the best way to record your ideas, organize your thoughts, and accomplish your tasks is to put them down and add them to your to-do list.

We are happy to introduce the Personal To-Do List in Space, a handy tool for personal short-term planning. You can open a To-Do list in your sidebar from anywhere in Space.

To-Do List for Today

Adding To-Dos

Currently, the Personal To-Do list is integrated with Chats, Blogs, and Issues. You can add an item from these tools in one click and it will become an actionable item in your To-Do list.

Have you received a message from a colleague that you want to reply to later, noticed a blog post that you don’t have time to read now, or remembered an issue to include in your plans for today? The To-Do list is here for you! Of course, you can add any other items directly to the list by typing them in the input.

There are several options for due dates for these items. They can be added for today, tomorrow, or any date in the future. All items are added for Today by default, and you can modify the due date to be later. If the due date for the item is missed, it will be added to your list for Today in the overdue section. To find all your tasks for upcoming dates, open the Later list. And all your previously resolved items can be found in the History list.

Plans for the future

The primary goal of the To-Do list is to provide an easy and time-saving way to plan and keep track of things you need to get done. That’s why we want to keep this feature simple, just like using sticky notes. In the near future, we plan to add a To-Do List to the Space mobile apps for iOS and Android.

We really hope the Personal To-Do List will reduce noise and will help you organize your work. Give it a try and share your experience with us. If you haven’t joined Space EAP yet, request your invite today.

Hello, it is a good feature, but it is confusing on how this could work with checklist, If I have some tasks at checklist, and I if add more into todo’s feature, this will not be reflected on my checklist progress, so I have to update the tasks in two places, do you plan somehting for this?

other scenario if some one on my team ask me to do certain things via team chat and then If I complete them I can not see this progres reflected on checklist.

      Hi Miguel,
Thank you for your question, it definitely makes sense!
We’re reconsidering the checklist concept and moving it towards epic management. Although it can be used at the moment for personal planning, we might change its concept in the future.
While the checklist is intended to be used for long-term planning and breaking-down complicated tasks/milestones to more granular to-do items, the personal to-do list is intended to be used for short-time personal planning.
It helps you to track various routine activities and get back to the important things later if you’re not ready to react/reply immediately.
That’s why we don’t have plans to integrate these two entities at the moment. We feel that we need to improve the concept of the checklists first.
