JetBrains is a Platinum Sponsor of the Godot Foundation
At JetBrains, we believe deeply in the value of diverse developer tools and open-source ecosystems, and so we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve just become a Platinum Sponsor of the Godot Foundation!
Godot is a fantastic game engine, with a very different approach to other game engines. It’s open source, not for profit and driven by the community. The Godot Foundation helps these aims by being a non-profit organisation created with the goal to administer financial support for the Godot Project. It does this by hiring developers to work part-time or full-time on the Godot Engine and related projects, hiring artists to create high quality demo artwork, purchasing hardware and helping with other similar costs.
We’re happy to announce that we’re contributing to this effort by joining as a Platinum Sponsor. JetBrains is a big supporter of Open Source software, and we believe that ecosystems are richer with more choice of tooling.
JetBrains Rider first introduced support for Godot in the 2020.1 release, and was bundled in 2024.2, providing great Godot features out of the box, and in the forthcoming 2025.2 release, we will also be bundling improved GDScript support, through a plugin initially created in the community by David Horacek, and now maintained by JetBrains. All of this work is open source and contributions are welcome!
Rider’s GDScript support includes syntax highlighting, documentation tooltips and parameter hints, Ctrl+Click navigation and search, Find Usages, rename refactorings and more. File templates make it easy to create (and customise!) new files. You can also debug your GDScript files direct from Rider, allowing you to use all the features of a modern IDE to work with your Godot scripts.

Of course, Rider’s excellent C# support also covers Godot, with navigation, inspections and quick fixes, and other features like completion of specific values inside string literals. Rider will recognise a Godot project and automatically set up debugging, making it a one-click operation to debug your scripts. It also has great support for the gdUnit testing framework, recognising tests in the editor, and providing tools to run and debug them. And Rider’s AI Assistant is ready to help you understand Godot code, prototype new scenarios and handle boilerplate such as generating documentation or commit messages.

Rider also has a Scene Preview tool window to show all the nodes in the current scene, and adds interactive icons to the text editor to run the current scene, highlight parent methods, monitor resource usage, connected signals and more. We also provide inspections to check for problems such as unreachable code, as well as missing or incorrect return types, with Alt+Enter actions to fix such issues.

And Rider’s great C++ support is perfect should you wish to build and contribute to the engine, and we’ve made a number of contributions ourselves to help make things run nicely.
Development of the Godot Project happens thanks to the dedication of contributors and paid volunteers, and we welcome the chance to support passionate people making a difference with a successful community project. If you’d like to join us in supporting the Godot Foundation and Project, you can find more details on the Foundation’s Donate page.
The success of open source projects like Godot depends on an ecosystem of partners dedicated to a shared mission of providing first class tools to empower developers.
JetBrains has shown their dedication to the mission time and time again. Initially by bringing their suite of top-notch tools to the Godot ecosystem and now with this sponsorship that helps the Godot Foundation secure the long term success of Godot.
