Confluence Integration Is Here

Posted on by Egor Malyshev

If you’re using YouTrack and Confluence together, you might be interested in this little add-on that helps you integrate these two at some level.

The add-on brings two macros:

1. issue which simply inserts a link to any YouTrack issue, and this link reflects the issue state, so you can tell, for example, if the issue is resolved or not by just looking at a page. Here’s an example of its syntax:

{issue:id=DOC-3202}

And this is what it produces:

link to issue

Hovering mouse over this link gives a tooltip with even more details like assignee, number of votes, etc. This macro was inspired by our marketing team who are actively using Confluence pages to aggregate information about various tasks that are connected with YouTrack issues, so now they can just open a page and have a clear view of how things are going with this or that task at a glance.

2. report this one allows you to insert a report based on a YouTrack issue query to a Confluence page. For example, this creates a page that displays unresolved issues from the DOC project:

{report:project=DOC|query=#Unresolved}

report

Get the add-on now and start using YouTrack and Confluence together. We’ve just started developing the plugin, so if you have a feature request or other feedback, don’t hesitate to share it with us.

By now the addon is not available for the confluence cloud.
Will that be changed in the near future?

Any update on confluence in the cloud and this plugin?

  5. Valerie Andrianova says:

    Hi Marcus,
Unfortunately, it’s on the Atlassian side, they decide which add-ons to add to the cloud. We contacted them, asking to add our plugin to the cloud.

This information is not correct. Developers have been able to publish add-ons for Atlassian’s cloud applications directly for quite some time. Please see https://developer.atlassian.com/explore-the-apis/ to understand how to bring your integration to Confluence Cloud if you have that as a priority for our joint customers.

Any updates on Confluence Cloud support?

            None so far.

  6. Frank says:

No matter how I configure your Confluence plugin, I always get this error:

com.atlassian.renderer.v2.macro.MacroException: youtrack.exceptions.CommandExecutionException: Command failed: GetProject{itemId='JOO'} host parameter is null

I successfully tested the rest API with the same user, password, and REST URL, and it works…

  7. Egor Malyshev says:

Which plugin version are you using?

    • Frank says:

      April 8, 2015

Sorry for taking so long to get that info (I’m not Confluence admin myself): plugin version is 1.6.8.4

      • Frank says:

        April 8, 2015

But my Confluence admin colleague just told me he tried all available plugin version, but none of them seems to work for us.

  8. Karl says:

Can’t get plugin to work. The user is correct, the API-Url seems to be fine as well, no logging entries. Getting “Cannot login to the specified YouTrack instance with credentials you provided.”

    • Karl says:

      December 18, 2015

      Sorry, forgot version information:
      Confluence 5.9.2
      Youtrack 6.0.12634

Integration is NOT marked as compatible to be clear. I gave it a try anyway.
      Help would be appreciated.

      • Karl says:

        December 18, 2015

oh, and the plugin version is 1.7.0.7

I just tried this with 5.9,2 and 1.7.0.7 worked just fine. Maybe you could contact me via mail or skype (egor.malyshev), and I’ll ask you a couple of questions about what possibly could go wrong?

Does anyone have also problems to connect to confluence after updating to youtrack 7.0?

    Error!

Cannot login to the specified YouTrack instance with credentials you provided.

    Settings have not been updated.

Hi! Please contact out support youtrack-incloud-support@jetbrains.com and attach a screenshot from your console when you get this error. Thanks!

    • Egor Malyshev says:

      October 26, 2016

If you’re 100% sure that YouTrack REST URL is correct, and that there are no typos in password/login, this error is most likely caused by the fact that SSL certificate required to connect to YouTrack is missing from JVM under which you’re running your Confluence instance. You need to import it and this should resolve the connection problem.

It’d be cool to have an ability to choose exact fields to display. AFAIU currently it shows Issue, State, Summary and Assignee. Are you going to add this ability?
    Thanks.

    • Egor Malyshev says:

      October 26, 2016

So I’ve updated the plugin https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/youtrack.integration.plugin/versions#b11075 and you can now use a very simple template to specify what fields you want in your report.

      Default template is: State:State,summary:Description,Assignee:Assigned to

As you can see it’s comma-separated pairs, in which the first string is YouTrack field name, and the second string is what will be displayed in the table header for this field when report is generated.

Just a few sample field names you might be interested in

      “summary”
      “numberInProject”
      “Subsystem”
      “projectShortName”
      “updaterName”
      “Type”
      “votes”
      “commentsCount”
      “links”
      “reporterFullName”
      “reporterName”
      “Assignee”
      “Priority”
      “resolved”
      “State”
      “updated”
      “created”
      “updaterFullName”
      “sprint”
      “attachments”

Sure, I can add this functionality to the Report macro.

Any idea when the integration with the cloud version of Confluence will be done?

      • Valerie Andrianova says:

        February 12, 2018

The set of plugins valid for Confluence Cloud is controlled by Atlassian. We’re investigating the ways to get the approval at the moment. Unfortunately, I cannot provide any estimation at the moment, but hopefully, we’ll have news within 1-2 months.
        Thanks for your patience!

  15. Michael Bertelsen says:

Please make the Confluence Cloud soon… We get pressure internally to switch to Jira instead of YouTrack because of the lag of integration between YouTrack and Confluence Cloud.
If we just could get an estimated release date… Please

Hi Stefan, thank you for the question. We have fixed this yesterday. YouTrack currently supports all the Confluence 7.x versions, so please check it out!
