ReSharper 8.2.3 Is Available

A new ReSharper maintenance release is now available. We recommend you to download and install ReSharper 8.2.3 in case you were unable to use previous bug-fix updates (8.2.1 and 8.2.2) due to expired subscription, although your subscription was valid for upgrading to 8.2 (expired after March, 21).

In addition to solving the upgrade issue, this update contains a fix to a problem with Go To Implementation on method or interface not working properly.

Stay tuned since more good news are just around the corner!

This version breaks all my views in MVC. All my helpers (that make use of [AspMvcView], [AspMvcModelType], etc) now don’t resolve the views, actions are not resolved unless I specify the controller, etc.

Had to go back to the previous version.

  4. Same boat as Marcelo as this one. Cleared caches*, did a git clean -xfd, full rebuild of the solution, I thought I’d wait a few days to see if the ExternalAnnotations are updated via ReSharper’s NuGet but no.

    Why is MVC navigation broken?

    Why does it always break?

Why is there no ReSharper 8.2.3 Fix Version in YouTrack so I can see what MVC-related stuff was changed that would cause this to break?

Why is RSRP-380442 (which “this update contains [the] fix”) marked as fixed in 8.2.1? What’s 8.2.3 for?

    etc etc.

*Why R# can’t do this every time it’s upgraded I don’t know, since every upgrade seems to break something and it’s fixed by clearing the caches.

No MVC-related issues were touched in this update, the problem might be caused by non-updated ExternalAnnotations plugin that should have been updated automatically. It might not be able to do that due to some firewall settings you might have. The workaround here can be to update the plugin manually in Extension Manager.

Concerning RSRP-380442, 8.2.1 is the version where the issue was fixed, while 8.2.3 is the version where the fix was released.

      • @Daria,

I’ve uploaded an image (forgive my drawing skills) of what I’ve tried to do in terms of troubleshooting. It looks like R# installs a version of external annotations that’s not available online.

I think this defeats the point of putting extensions online.

        • Slava Trenogin says:

having different version of package available online and locally (shipped with app) is not the issue.
Can you, please, uninstall annotation package and install it from “Bundled Plugins” source not the “ReSharper Gallery” one.
If it doesn’t help, please, remove file %Appdata%\JetBrains\ReSharper\vAny\packages.config” and reinstall all necessary packages from scratch, including ReSharper.ExternalAnnotations of course.

          • As an aside, this is happening on my work and home PCs (and neither PC has a particularly esoteric configuration, the only third-party add-ins are ReSharper and PostSharp) and you’ll see Marcelo’s comment above that it is not working for him either.

I already tried your first suggestion but I will look at packages.config.

If I get it working (or not) I will endeavour to come back here and post notes.

Thanks for your time so far.

[AspMvcView] etc for me have been flaky pretty much forever. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

  6. I’m having the same issue. ReSharper version is 8.2.3000.5176. When I installed this it seemed to install the ExternalAnnotations that come bundled with the update, also versioned at the same version number.

I can fix the issue by uninstalling the ExternalAnnotations (version 8.2.3000.5176) and re-installing from the ReSharper Gallery (which is version 8.2.2001.1). After a Visual Studio restart, by MVC quickfixes and View navigation is back.

Strangely, I also get prompted by ReSharper that extension updates are available, and it want to upgrade my ExternalAnnotations to version 8.2.3000.5176. If I do this (and restart VS) everything breaks again. Downgrading back to version 8.2.2001.1 (and a VS restart) will, however, fix it again.

Thank you, Craig, for reporting about this problem and sorry for the inconvenience it caused. We’re looking for a fix for that.

  7. I note that there’s now (as of this morning?) a new ExternalAnnotation package: 8.2.3001. I will try this and see how it goes.
