ReSharper Ultimate build for Visual Studio 2017 RC

Jura Gorohovsky

Microsoft has just announced its latest IDE preview release, and we’re here to sim-ship a compatible version of ReSharper Ultimate.

Just get ReSharper Ultimate 2016.3 EAP 9 and install it into Visual Studio 2017 RC. You should be able to install all tools that are included in ReSharper Ultimate, namely ReSharper, ReSharper C++, dotCover, dotTrace and dotMemory.

Granted, both the new Visual Studio and the ReSharper EAP are pre-release products, so issues are to be expected here and there.

Please try installing the EAP build in Visual Studio 2017 RC and let us know how it works for you.

what’s happening w/ the C# IDE? I thought this would be in place of Resharper 3.0?

Nick — RS 3.0 will be out mid-June 2007 …. you’re almost there. You can download the Beta in the meantime at:

Personally, I think it’s obsurd that folks that purchased Resharper 2.5 prior to April 2007 (such as myself, purchasing v2.5 in January) have to pay for the “upgrade.” 2.5.X is so buggy (it throws exceptions every 2-3 hours) and the beta of 3.0 is certainly no more stable than 2.5, I won’t be paying for it. Let alone the fact that 3.0 simply adds VB.NET support (be honest, there are hardly any noticeable updates in the C# space – certainly not worth paying for an upgrade.)

Good luck, I”ve just spent my money on DevExpress’s toolset (Refactor! & CodeRush) to replace Resharper – and at least I get a 1 year maintenance with that.

    -Giorgio

P.S. Your CAPTCHA solution for posting entries is buggy and eats the content/body field when the user mangles the code.

    Hi Giorgio,

We are sorry to hear you are having problems with ReSharper. If you have posted any requests at our bug tracker, http://www.jetbrains.net/jira/browse/RSRP, what are their numbers? Many bugs are fixed ASAP, so we would suggest that you wait for ReSharper 2.5.3, which will be out soon.

Also, I’m not sure what you mean by paying for ReSharper 3.0 Beta. Obviously, beta quality is not on the same level as an RTM release, and we’ve never attempted to charge anyone for our Beta versions.

As far as upgrading, there are plenty of enhancements and new features for C#, including improved code analysis (code suggestions) and new productivity instruments (Go to Symbol, To-do list, and more). Please keep in mind that if you are not interested in Visual Basic, you will be able to purchase a separate C# Edition. Likewise, those who only work with VB.NET will be able to use a separate VB.NET Edition – at a fraction of the full price.

    Thanks,
    Obfuscator.

I too am very disappointed that the licence I purchased in January is now effectively useless and will be charged as much as I paid in the first place if I want the latest features and support. Given the terrible state of early 2.5 builds and the time I spent submitting bug reports that went towards the much more stable 2.5.3 I feel let down and angry. Time to evaluate CodeRush methinks…

    Hey,

Can I install it side by side in Visual Studio 2017 RC and ReSharper Ultimate 2016.3 EAP 9 and Visual Studio 2015 with ReSharper Ultimate 2016.2 ?

    Cheers
    Laurent

    • Sergey Kuks says:

Thanks Sergey! It seems to work yes! I am just not sure about jetbrainsetw.107.0.20161116.163128-eap9 which removed the 2016.2 one!

        • Sergey Kuks says:

          November 17, 2016

Laurent I did not quite get what was removed but it might be affected by the selection in the installation dialog you’ve made. If you selected VS 2017 as the only target then nothing installed to other Visual Studios should be removed.

    Hi,

I installed ReSharper 2016.3 EAP on Visual Studio 2017 RC. The first time when I started it,
I had to kill it. On the second start, it was working, but it was VERY laggy and afterwards it was slowing VS a lot. On the third start, after some initial lagging, it works OK.

  12. Thomas Levesque says:

Looks like most C# 7 features are not supported yet. Any ETA for full support ?

    • Jura Gorohovsky says:

      November 19, 2016

We’ll be supporting more of them with new updates, and support is certainly going to be a lot better in a ReSharper release for Visual Studio 2017 RTM. Currently there are certain limitations as Microsoft apparently hasn’t finalized all language features yet (such as patterns)

  13. JRoger says:

    November 18, 2016

Hope to improve performance of ReSharper。For example: when opening solutions

    • Jura Gorohovsky says:

      November 19, 2016

Sure, this is a part of our ongoing performance efforts.

If you witness an unusual slowdown and you suspect it’s due to ReSharper, we’d appreciate a performance snapshot to investigate. Thanks

I have just installed the 2016.3 EAP9 and my subscription is valid until September 2017. But it says This pre-release version will expire in 26 days.

    • Jura Gorohovsky says:

      November 19, 2016

That’s OK: EAP builds are time-limited: each of them works for 30 days, then it expires, and it is expected that you install a newer EAP build (or a release build if it has been published by that time.)

Release builds don’t have that limitation and they fully respect your subscription terms.

  16. Michael says:

    November 24, 2016

    Hi,

I have a license for Resharper 9 only (no subscription). Will there be support for use with Visual Studio 2017 or do I have to buy/upgrade my license?

    • Jura Gorohovsky says:

      November 24, 2016

You’ll need to upgrade. ReSharper 2016.3 will support VS2017 RC, and the timeline for VS2017 final release support depends on when Microsoft ships it (which isn’t known yet)

      • Michael says:

        November 24, 2016

Thank your for the fast response. I’ll tell it our licensing team. 🙂

I’m seeing exactly the same thing. Clean install of VS2017, upgrade of Resharper to the EAP and the VS2017 button is disabled

    • ScrawnyB says:

      December 18, 2016

Seeing the same issues as above. A clean install of VS2017 (and clean install of Resharper 2016.3, no previous installs) does not allow for integration of Resharper into it – not showing as an option. Conversely, my desktop which has both Resharper and VS2015 installed, shows an option for VS2017 – even though it isn’t on this machine. So it appears there might be a bool flipped or something odd.
