Chats: Stay Informed, Discuss, Take Action
How can we keep the information load at a manageable level, cut down on the number of times we need to jump between apps, and still get all the perks of effective team communication? In Space, we decided to make Chats the central hub for real-time information sharing. We want it to be a single inbox that will streamline group chats, direct chats, and notifications, and that will also let you react and actually *do* things right in the message stream.
Checklists: Plan, Brainstorm, Outline
Checklists in Space are our vision of a lightweight tool for top-down planning. You can use them to plan a milestone, a version, a feature, or an event such as a team gathering. Whatever you can brainstorm and outline for your project, you can plan thanks to our hierarchical checklists. In this post, we would like to give you a quick overview of Project Checklists. Every project contains a Checklists section. And any project team member can create checklists that are visible to everyone who can see the project. Let's see what you can do with a checklist. Manage Employee Absences in Space
Establishing a transparent process that helps team members meet their goals on a day-to-day basis is key to the success of any team. One side of this process is communication and planning. To plan, a team needs to track its members’ availability — you need to know when you and your teammates are all free to schedule an activity such as a meeting, a brainstorming call, and so on. The same principle applies on the company level: tracking and managing employees’ availability is vital for the company’s well-being. (more…)
Dashboards with a Personal Touch
Our vision for Space is to make an efficient collaborative environment for teams. We believe that for an integrated solution to be effective, it should provide the optimal level of information needed for each team member to perform their role, instead of becoming a source of excessive noise, distraction, or informational overload. That’s why we put our focus on personalizing every bit of information inside Space. Out of the most visible parts of the interface, dashboards are a prime candidate for personalization. A dashboard gives an instant overview of the current state of affairs for a team
Cross-project Agile Boards in YouTrack: The Best Recipes
Today we would like to tell you about cross-project Agile boards and monitoring your work progress in several projects through a sprint or any other iteration. General use case My team works on two projects simultaneously, and I want to monitor the progress for both projects on the same board. One answer that springs to mind is, "Create a cross-project board. What could be more obvious?" True, but to make it work smoothly and fit your specific process, you need to configure the board appropriately, and that might be not so obvious. We've prepared three recipes to cover three common cases, s
Multi-Level Agile Boards or How We Support Epics
Update:Please check the updated tutorial about Agile Boards for Epics in YouTrack 7.0. We get quite a few questions from our customers which can be summed up as "Does YouTrack support multi-level agile boards, and do you have epics?" The short answer is "Yes." For the long answer, please read on. What is it all about? Though there are no clear-cut rules in Agile for using the terms epics, user stories, features, and tasks, we understand epics as complex user stories divided into smaller and simple user stories, which are then split into particular tasks for developers. Another disti
Using YouTrack 5.1 as Your Help Desk
Update: With the YouTrack 5.2 we introduced the enhanced Help Desk workflow that allows you to support multiple customers in a single ticket/issue. Please refer to the Helpdeskers, Support Multiple Customers in a Single YouTrack Thread blog post for the Help Desk configuration and setup instructions. It's been a while since we added mailbox integration in YouTrack. Mailbox integration is a key feature that allows you to create an issue from email and add replies as comments, in effect turning YouTrack into a help desk. With YouTrack 5.1 we made great changes to our help desk support. Now
Handling Email Feedback: YouTrack to the Rescue
Hello everyone! Thanks to our users, we receive lots of feedback every day. You post questions in our forum, create issues in our bug tracker, and, of course, you send us emails. If you get feedback emails on a regularly basis, like we do, and your support team or a member of your development team processes them, you've probably faced the tiny inconvenience of keeping track of the status of an email and the person responsible for it. Faced with this challenge, we wanted to find the best way to track all of these things, so no precious question would be left unanswered. In JetBrains, we pract
YouTrack 2.0 RC3: Check Out the New EXE Distribution
We hoped that RC2 would become the final RC for the upcoming YouTrack 2.0. However, today we decided to publish the new Release Candidate 3, and for good reason. The main feature of this RC3 build is the brand new EXE distribution option. The EXE file bundles Apache Tomcat application server and JRE 1.6, meaning you will no longer need to worry about pre-installing software that is required to run YouTrack. Now all you have to do is download the EXE file, and run it. As a result, YouTrack will be launched as a Windows service! We have one important note for those of you who already use YouTr
