Today we’d like to thank our users who have been helping us improve our IntelliJ IDEA localization plugins! You can now download the new plugin version for your IDE!

Some numbers

Since we announced the first EAP version of the IntelliJ IDEA localization plugins, we’ve seen an amazing response from our users resulting in more than 247,000 downloads of the Simplified Chinese version, 9,900 for the Japanese version, and 3,800 for the Korean version of the plugin. We’re continuing to work on these plugins and your feedback has helped us greatly: we’ve received over 500 requests for improvements via various channels.

Challenges and opportunities

We quickly realized that we need more resources. Quality assurance of the localization plugins has been a challenge. That’s why we’re looking for quality assurance experts with native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and Korean with fluent English to join the IntelliJ IDEA team and help our localized products fit the needs of our users better. If you’re interested in one of these vacancies, send us your resume in English.

What we’ve done

Retroactive localization of a mature product is a difficult task, especially if you take into account the vast scope of technologies supported by IntelliJ-based IDEs. The IntelliJ team – including developers, technical writers, and QA engineers – has put a tremendous amount of effort into this process. Our localization team, including internal and external translators and proofreaders, has been working non-stop to deliver the localization plugins to you.

Today we’re releasing a new EAP version of the localization plugins. This version provides a fully localized UI for all our IDEs, including IntelliJ IDEA. The majority of the issues that have been reported so far (about 400) are fixed. The latest version of the plugins, 203.xxx, is compatible with the 2020.3 EAP versions of the IntelliJ-based IDEs.

We would really appreciate it if you could give the new plugin versions a try!

How to change the interface language of your IDE

The Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language pack plugins are easy to install. Please follow the instructions in the IntelliJ IDEA documentation.

How to submit feedback

To report issues, both technical and translation-related, please use YouTrack. Issues can be submitted directly from the IDE, or via YouTrack using templates for the Chinese, Japanese, or Korean versions. There’s a special YouTrack subsystem for localization issues. Before you submit your issue, please familiarize yourself with the list of known issues.

It really means a lot to us that you’re investing your time and effort into helping us improve our products. We listen to your feedback closely, and we hope that together we can help people build better software and be proud of what they create!
